This is a big week for me. I mentioned a few posts back that my lack of blogging played in part to me not feeling great about myself. I know I don’t look the way I did when I was my fittest in college and that gets to me. I just never seem to find the motivation I need to stick with a healthy eating plan and workout schedule like I used to. Then out of the blue, Arijana texted me asking if I’d be interested in a 6-week Krav Maga challenge at a gym in the city. I was skeptical at first and was immediately afraid to know the price tag of said 6-week challenge. After exploring the site and watching videos on the challenge I knew this was what I needed to get back on track and to finally succeed in making a positive lifestyle change.
If you’re also wondering the grand total of the 6-week challenge, it came out to $250 total for 6 weeks of hour long sessions, 3x a week, and a food plan to follow. All in all, I think that’s a really great deal considering I let $20 come out of my checking account each month for a gym I never go to (but maybe I will after this…). The environment seems uplifting and encouraging and just what I need to keep that motivation in check. Not to mention it is a class of only women. I love the idea of a group full of determined women trying to live a healthier lifestyle for whatever reason. That’s pretty amazing.
My first class starts this Tuesday right after work, so that’s going to take some getting used to. Another thing that’s going to take a lot of getting used to is the food plan I mentioned earlier. Each of us who joined the challenge has to stick to a paleo diet. My instructor said I don’t have to take it too strict right off the bat, or I may go crazy, but to definitely cut out the main parts of what a paleo diet is all about. So what’s it all about? Well, I only know what I read from my instructor and what I’ve researched online. Without getting into too much detail in this first post, it is mainly a diet of meat (protein), vegetables, fruits, with absolutely no dairy, grains, processed foods, or refined sugars. I believe many even refer to is as the “caveman’s diet.” Dairy will be a big one for me and, of course, the grain part. I mean, my life is bread and cheese…hello, pizza?! There was a moment where I tried to convince myself that I would cut most of it out, but do certain things like Greek yogurt and whole wheat breads in moderation. Then it hit me — I just paid $250 to do a 6-week challenge with a food plan (with before and after photos — eek!), so I would be cheating myself of the optimum results. I wanna kick ass in these classes and see and feel a physical change. So buh bye, dairy! See ya later, bread!
I know there will be challenges in the coming weeks. I’m already experiencing them as I try to grocery shop and meal prep for a lifestyle I never imagined partaking in. I think it will be fun and rewarding to share those struggles here on the blog and also any insights and updates I may have, too. I’m ready to step out of my comfort zone, experience new things and change myself for the better. Plus, I get to do this alongside my best friend. How amazing is that? Our busy lives have gotten in the way of our weekly coffee dates and Target runs, so I’m really looking forward to spending some quality time with my Schnookums (cute baby name, huh?).
Please let me know if you have questions for me regarding the challenge, or this new lifestyle change. I’m also extremely welcome to receiving advice if you’re knowledged in the paleo diet/lifestyle. There’s only so much I can absorb from paleo Instgram accounts and recipes I’ve pinned. I’ll try to update once a week if that feels right and continue to update you all. Wish me luck! Have an amazing Sunday, loves!
